"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food"

Meet Dr. Carolyn
Hello! I’m Dr Carolyn English, a Registered Nutritionist, researcher, and nutrition educator with a passion for helping people feel well through food — especially those navigating complex digestive issues like Congenital Sucrase-Isomaltase Deficiency (CSID) and related sugar–starch intolerances.

I hold a PhD in Nutrition Science and a Master’s degree in Human Nutrition, and have published multiple peer-reviewed studies on the relationship between dietary patterns, chronic inflammation, and cardiovascular disease risk. I am currently conducting research into dietary interventions and clinical strategies for managing CSID, with the goal of expanding awareness and improving quality of life for those living with this under-recognised condition.

But my interest in digestive health isn’t just academic — it’s personal. After years of unexplained discomfort, I was diagnosed with CSID as an adult. That experience reshaped how I see nutrition: not just as prevention, but as practical, individualised support for those living with chronic digestive symptoms.

My approach to CSID is not overly restrictive. Many standard CSID diets eliminate large numbers of foods unnecessarily, which can negatively impact gut health, nutrient intake, and quality of life. I work with individuals to identify their personal tolerance levels and develop flexible, sustainable eating patterns that support a diverse microbiome and overall wellbeing.

Through my work, I combine scientific expertise with lived experience to offer compassionate, evidence-based guidance. I don’t promote rigid diets or quick fixes — just real strategies for feeling better, eating confidently, and enjoying food again.
